Assemblymember Hart Newsletter

I am excited to share with you this news update about recent legislative developments and some of the work I am doing to represent our community in the California State Assembly.

Legislative Update

Since the legislative session began in January, I have introduced bills focusing on several of my top priorities, including protecting our communities from oil operations that threaten the environment, expanding opportunities for nonprofits to secure State grants and contracts and protecting vulnerable homeowners from predatory real estate practices.

I am pleased to let you know that these bills recently passed the State Assembly and are now moving forward in the State Senate.

Oil & Gas Violation Enforcement: Assembly Bill 631 ensures California has 21st century enforcement tools to protect communities from oil and gas operations that violate the law and endanger both public health and the environment.

Nonprofit Access to State Grants: Assembly Bill 590 ensures nonprofits can secure up to 25% of State grants and contracted funds up front, with a priority on nonprofits serving vulnerable communities or those with modest reserves. This legislation will increase nonprofit service provider's access to State grants and expands the delivery of needed assistance to vulnerable Californians.

Consumer Protections for Homeowners: Assembly Bill 1345 will protect vulnerable homeowners against deceptive real estate lending agreements that are being used to deceptively trap consumers into decades-long contracts that are tied to irrevocable liens on their homes.

Constituent Services

In addition to my work in the Capitol, my team is working every day to assist constituents throughout the District to ensure that our communities are connected to critical State resources. My District Office team is available to help you navigate State agencies, receive your feedback on legislative priorities, answer your questions about State government, and more. Please contact my office anytime, and we will make sure that your needs are addressed by the appropriate agency or partner. You can contact my district office at (805) 564-1649 or email me at Assemblymember.Hart@assembly.ca.gov.

Out in the Community

I have appreciated the opportunity to spend time with community members from across the Central Coast during my first months in office. Throughout the winter months, I worked closely with our local first responders and community members to assist in our community's storm preparation and recovery efforts. Other highlights from the past few months include: visiting our local community colleges, meeting with industry and community leaders to discuss our economic development goals, shadowing our local child care workers and promoting access to our parks and trails.

I look forward to seeing you in the District, especially over the summer months. Please stay tuned for event announcements. You are welcome to contact my office if you would like to schedule a meeting.
