Dear Neighbor,
I am excited to share this update on recent legislative developments and the work I am doing to represent our community in the California State Assembly.
Four-Year Degrees Coming to Santa Maria

I recently joined Allan Hancock College and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo to announce a historic partnership that will bring Cal Poly SLO bachelor's degree programs to Allan Hancock College's Santa Maria Campus. By 2026, there will be a new Bachelor of Science in Business Administration program. By 2028 and 2030, two additional bachelor's degree programs will be offered. These programs build on the small-cohort Bachelor of Arts in Sociology program that recently launched, and together, they will accommodate hundreds of students per year. Offerings will also be available at Allan Hancock College's Lompoc Campus as the partnership expands.
I am proud to have worked alongside local educational leaders to bring this partnership forward. This work included advocating to the leaders of our statewide higher education systems and introducing legislation to bring attention to the limited opportunities that Santa Maria residents have for four-year degrees. I commend Allan Hancock College and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo on achieving this tremendous partnership that will have a generational impact on our region.

Rebuilding California: Summerland & Padaro Segments of the Highway 101 Improvement Project Completed

Our community recently celebrated the completion of the Summerland and Padaro segments of the Highway 101 improvement project. This phase features seven miles of new carpool lanes, six new bridges, 16 improved on- and off-ramps, six new sound walls, a new Blue Star Memorial Highway designation in honor of veterans and the new Santa Claus Lane Bikeway.
As the backbone of the Central Coast's transportation system, improvements to Highway 101 directly benefit residents, businesses and commuters. By leveraging $140 million in local sales tax dollars from Measure A, we have attracted nearly $1 billion in state and federal funds to improve local and regional circulation and safety in the 101 corridor. The full project from Carpinteria to Santa Barbara is expected to be completed by 2028, with the final stretch from Montecito to Sycamore Creek recently funded.
