Happy New Year! I hope you had a joyful holiday season. I am excited to share with you this news update about recent legislative developments and some of the work I am doing to represent our community in the California State Assembly.
New Chairmanship
Assembly Speaker Robert Rivas recently appointed me as Chair of the Joint Legislative Audit Committee. This critical committee works with the California State Auditor's Office to ensure government programs and agencies work effectively, efficiently and deliver on their objectives to benefit all Californians.

Budget Update
Last week, Governor Newsom released his initial proposal for the 2024-25 California State Budget. The budget recognizes the importance of addressing our economic challenges while protecting critical programs that benefit vulnerable Californians. We have prepared for these challenges by building strong reserves, delivering balanced budgets and investing in priorities that uplift California's economy.
As we move forward in the budgetary process, I am committed to working collaboratively with my colleagues in the Legislature and the Governor to ensure the budget protects investments that deliver on our commitment to improving the lives of all Californians. The deadline to pass the final budget is June 15. To learn more, please visit the California Budget website.
Access to Justice Award
I was proud to receive the 2023 Access to Justice Award from the California Access to Justice Commission. The award recognized my work to secure funding for student loan repayment programs for Legal Aid attorneys. Legal Aid provides legal services to low-income and other vulnerable residents in order to ensure equal access to justice.

Save Money and Fight Climate Change
California is launching a new website to connect Californians with climate resources like Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) incentives, home energy programs and turf replacement rebates. Everyone can be a part of solving climate change. State and local programs can help you save money and make the transition to a greener, more-sustainable future. There are home-related programs available for both renters and homeowners, along with vehicle-related programs that serve people of varying income levels. Visit the California Climate Action website to learn more.
