I am excited to share with you this news update about recent legislative developments and some of the work I am doing to represent our community in the California State Assembly.
Update from the Capitol

Our 37th District team has been busy working on your behalf in the Capitol over the past few weeks. From giving presentations on our bills to meeting with constituents, we have been advancing priorities that will improve the quality of life on the Central Coast.
In the last newsletter update, I shared information on my bills that will strengthen emergency response, support small family farms, and enhance local recycling efforts. Today, I would like to inform you of three more bills that I have authored and passed out of the Assembly. These bills are now being considered by the Senate.
Mental Health Treatment: Assembly Bill 1412 allows defendants diagnosed with borderline personality disorder to receive the necessary mental health treatment through pretrial diversion programs to increase rehabilitation and reduce recidivism.
Community Resources During Emergencies: Assembly Bill 557 allows local governments to conduct remote meetings during Governor-declared emergencies to ensure essential community services continue to operate.
Driver's License Protection: Assembly Bill 1125 protects Californians who miss a traffic fine installment plan payment from having their driver's license suspended by the California Department of Motor Vehicles.

Sidewalk Office Hours
More than 30 years ago, I staffed former Assemblymember Jack O'Connell at his sidewalk office events all across the Central Coast. Decades later, I'm excited to bring this tradition back. On July 17, 18, and 19, I will be hosting sidewalk office hours in communities throughout the 37th District. These events are opportunities for us to connect on the issues that matter for our region. Please come by and say "hello" if you are in the area. As always, you are also welcome to request a meeting with my office to discuss your priorities or get your questions answered.
California State Library Parks Pass
Summer is a great time to explore California's beautiful outdoors. Did you know that you can check out a State Parks Pass at your local library? In partnership with the First Partner's Office and the California State Library, State Parks is providing free vehicle day-use entry to over 200 participating parks operated by State Parks for check out to library-card holders. Find your local public library. You can also watch this video to learn how to get your pass.
