Limón Issues Statement On Budget

Thursday, January 10, 2019

SACRAMENTO—Assemblymember Monique Limón (D – Santa Barbara) issued the following statement on the proposed Budget presented today by Governor Gavin Newsom.

I am encouraged by the investments made in the Governor’s 2019-20 “California for All” budget proposal and the projected increase in reserves to $18.5 billion dollars combined in 2019-20.  As Vice Chair of the Legislative Women’s Caucus, I especially applaud his investments in “cradle to career,” K-12, and expanded paid family leave. Governor Newsom’s commitment to invest in Alzheimer’s research, is especially meaningful, as I am one of thousands of Californians who has a family member that is directly impacted by Alzheimer’s.

As a representative of an area impacted by the Thomas Fire and the subsequent Montecito debris flows, I am especially pleased to see the significant investments in forest health and wildfire prevention and response. The Governor’s budget proposes an additional $172.3 million to improve the state’s emergency response and preparedness capabilities, including $25 million ongoing for prepositioning of existing OES and local government resources to enhance disaster response readiness.

I look forward to working with my colleagues in the Assembly as we dive deeper into the Governor’s budget.

Monique Limón represents the 37th Assembly District which includes Santa Barbara, Ventura, Goleta, Carpinteria, Ojai, Santa Paula, Fillmore, Buellton, Solvang, Summerland, Isla Vista, Montecito and parts of Oxnard. She currently serves as Chair of the Assembly Banking and Finance Committee and Vice Chair of the California Legislative Women’s Caucus.
