PRESS RELEASE: Limón Honors Leading From Within as Nonprofit of the Year
SACRAMENTO—Assemblymember Monique Limón (D – Santa Barbara) honors Santa Barbara-based organization Leading From Within as the 2017 Nonprofit of the year for the 37th Assembly District to celebrate California Nonprofits Day at the State Capitol in Sacramento. Nonprofits at the event will be addressed by several state legislators, including Limón, Chair of the Assembly Select Committee on the Nonprofit Sector, Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon and California Attorney General Xavier Becerra.
“Leading From Within identifies and invests in nonprofit leaders with the goal of strengthening the entire nonprofit sector,” said Limón. “As we more regularly rely upon nonprofits to do more in our communities, Leading From Within is working to ensure nonprofit professionals are able to develop sustainable organizations that address unmet needs and advance community priorities. By deliberately developing human capital, Leading From Within is improving the impact of nonprofits and improving lives across the Central Coast.”
Leading From Within works to grow social sector leaders and strengthen the network of public-minded organizations for the benefit of the community. Founded in 2008, when Ken Saxon and Kim Stokely launched the Courage to Lead Program to invest in renewal, leadership development and peer community for experienced nonprofit executive leaders, Leading From Within expanded in 2012 to support the growth of the Courage to Lead Program and its growing alumni program and to build additional programming for others driven to lead in their communities through their work in nonprofit organizations. Since its inception, Leading From Within has garnered well-deserved recognition for its innovative approaches.
"The Nonprofit of the Year award is a truly a recognition of the talented and committed leaders working every day to make our Santa Barbara communities a better place to live for everyone and the donors who understand the amplified impact of investing in these vital community members," said Leading From Within Executive Director Carrie Randolph.
California Nonprofits Day is established by Assembly Current Resolution 54, authored by Limón.
