No Kid Hungry: Free Summer Meals for Kids and Teens
Summer vacation can be a stressful time for the 1 in 4 kids in California who struggle with hunger, many of whom rely on school breakfast and lunch during the school year. The good news is that there are federally funded Summer Food Service Program locations all around the state that provide FREE meals for kids and teens age 18 and under and offer a fun, safe place for them to be active and visit with friends. To help people find summer meals sites in their community, national anti-hunger non-profit No Kid Hungry has created a texting line: just text “FOOD” or “COMIDA” to 877-877 from a mobile phone to automatically receive information about the closest summer meal locations. If you or someone you know has kids who could benefit from these free summer meals, call the National Hunger Clearinghouse hotline (1-866-3-HUNGRY; 1-877-8- HAMBRE) for more information.
