Volunteer Income Tax Assistance

Dear Friend,

I am pleased to notify you that free tax preparation assistance is available in our area. Saturday, March 4, 2017 is Santa Barbara County Tax Day. From 10am to 4pm IRS-certified volunteers will be helping people with household incomes of $54,000 or less prepare and file a basic tax return for free through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program. The VITA program specializes in assisting disabled taxpayers, those with low to limited income, and non-English speaking taxpayers.

An appointment is required, so call (213) 833-6010 to schedule a time. It will be held at the Veterans Memorial Building in Santa Barbara. Please click here for a flyer.

In Ventura County, services are being offered from February 4 to April 15, 2017 at various times. Please call 2-1-1 for information or click here for a flyer.

You can also contact me or come by my offices to get more information on this event, pick up Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) information, and/or pick up 540 & 540EZ tax forms.

My district offices are located at

  • 101 West Anapamu Street, Suite A, Santa Barbara, CA 93101; Phone: (805) 564-1649
  • 89 South California Street, Suite F, Ventura, CA 93001; Phone: (805) 641-3700

If this time does not work for you, there are also VITA sites all over the state. Please visit http://irs.treasury.gov/freetaxprep/  to find a site hosting a VITA program near you.

Thank you and good luck with your taxes!
